Description
My father was a New York City Policeman. This is a pastel of him holding my brother, Bob. The photo I did this from was black and white and taken sometime in the mid 1950s. They were not standing in proximity to the Statue of Liberty as is depicted here. In fact, I'm sure they were somewhere in the Bronx. I decided to place them in this ficticious setting (there is no place, besides on a boat, where you could actually be standing this close to the statue) because I wanted the piece to reflect our father's strength, his love for his family, and his love for his country. I am now calling this "Officer Daddy" although the original name is "America's Finest" (you can see the name in the lower left corner). The original was donated to the New York City Police Museum located in lower Manhattan.
